Push-Up Games: Phone Games You Play With Real Push-Ups

Updated · 12 min read

In short

A push-up game is a phone game you play with real push-ups: usually seen by the camera, each one hits a boss, races a rival or flies a character through a gap. We checked ten push-up game apps: nine say the video stays on the phone, and one mentions knees. In Push Flight, a game in SWADE, knee push-ups count the same.

Push-up games: what the words cover

"Push-up game" means two things. Away from a screen, it's a group game where push-ups are the score or the forfeit, like the deck of cards workout (our deck of cards guide has the rules). On a phone, it's a push-up game app: the phone goes on the floor, flat or propped up, and its camera turns each real push-up into a move.

This guide compares ten of the phone kind, from Push Up Boss to Flapups: games that say what a push-up does in play. There are others. Searches for "push up game for kids" get no answer here: this guide is written for players aged 15 and up.

Four ways a push-up drives a game

The games we read use a push-up in four ways, each rewarding something else.

  • Hits. Each push-up strikes a monster, often a boss (Pushup RPG, Fit Arena, PUPG, Push Up Boss, PushArena). More push-ups, more damage.
  • Races. Your count against another player's, live, in a battle or a 1v1 (RepChamp, Push Up Boss, Pushup RPG, PushArena, Push Up Arena, PUPG). The quicker your reps, the better you do.
  • Beats. Push-ups to music (Push Up Boss's Rhythm Quest, new on October 17, 2026). The beat sets your pace.
  • Height. How high you hold your plank flies a character through gaps (Captain Push-Up, Flapups, and Push Flight in SWADE). Staying low can matter as much as pushing up.

In a height game, counting is a separate question. Captain Push-Up's listing says its camera follows "the height of your eyes" and times your plank; it never says it counts push-ups. Flapups says "No counting reps", and also "One counted push-up a day keeps your streak." Push Flight counts each push-up, in full or in part.

Sources, read October 24, 2026: each game's US App Store listing (text, in-app purchases, App Privacy), its Google Play page when it has one, its site and the privacy policy the listing links to. "Policy": that privacy policy. Prices: the main plans; some purchase lists add weekly or discounted ones. Android appears in "Runs on" only when we found the game on Google Play. Apple, iPhone, iPad, App Store, Apple Watch, Google, Android, Google Play, Push Up Boss, Pushup RPG, Push Up Arena, PUSHUP ARENA, PUPG, Fit Arena, RepChamp, PushArena, Captain Push-Up, Flapups and Push Up Games are trademarks of their respective owners. SWADE is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any of them.

The camera sentence isn't the whole picture. Each App Store listing has an App Privacy section, filled in by the developer: on October 24, 2026, six of these ten listed data "used to track you" across other companies' apps and websites. Two more, Pushup RPG and RepChamp, name "Photos or Videos" among data linked to your identity, without saying which.

Knee push-ups: the question most listings skip

Knee push-ups are where many people start: our push-up ladder climbs from the wall to the floor. A game that doesn't count them leaves you out.

On October 24, 2026, nine of the ten listings said nothing about knees. The tenth, Pushup RPG, says in its update notes that you pick toes or knees during setup, and can switch to knees mid-set. Whatever the game, play a round on your knees before you pay.

Depth is the other difference. Pushup RPG counts "clean, full-depth reps", Fit Arena only a push-up "you actually complete", while PUPG gives "bonus damage" for going deeper. Push Flight counts a shallower push-up as part of one. How counters decide what a rep is, app by app: what counts as one push-up.

If kneeling or pushing hurts, stop and see a doctor first.

Before you install a push-up game app

  1. Check the developer. Names collide. On October 24, 2026, Push Up Arena (Airix, iPhone), PUSHUP ARENA (Volara, Android), PUPG (listed on Google Play as "Push up arena - PUPG") and PushArena (SSS Studios, iPhone and iPad) were four different games.
  2. Find out what's free. A free download can be a whole game with ads, a free start with a paid membership, or a demo round before a subscription. Our guide to what "free" means in a workout app explains each kind.
  3. Find out how it counts. Push Up Arena's listing and site don't say, and its policy says it doesn't access the camera. If a game doesn't say, try it before you pay.
  4. Know who's on the other side. Live battles match you with other players, and several games add a chat. Look for a way to report or block before you play strangers: Pushup RPG puts both on its result card.

Push Flight: your head sets the height, your shoulders count

SWADE is a fitness game app, coming soon to iPhone and Android: your moves, read by the front camera, are the controls. Push Flight is its push-up game, and a height game: your head sets how high Sway, SWADE's weasel, flies through the gates, and your shoulders count the push-ups.

SWADE's push-up game Push Flight, seen through Sway's eyes: a green crosshair inside a ruined stone gate on a floating island at dusk, a coin above it, three hearts with one full and a score at the top, gloved hands at the bottom.
Push Flight: line the crosshair up with the gate, and Sway flies through.

Setting up. The phone stands on the floor in front of you, propped against a wall; laid flat, its camera would face the ceiling. Before the first gate come Phone, Plank and Push-up: once the camera has you, stay still in your plank, then do one complete push-up, toes or knees down. That first one is a check and stays out of the count. Then "One push-up, take off!": that one counts.

SWADE Push Flight setup: a stick figure in a plank faces a phone standing against a wall, with "Stand it up, facing you."; two silhouettes, On your feet and On your knees; the parts Phone, Plank and Push-up; Sway says "Come closer to the phone."
Two ways in: on your feet or on your knees.

Two modes. Timed has no hearts to lose, and the speed keeps pace with your push-ups. In Elimination, you have three hearts, a hit costs one, and the speed steps up ("Faster!"). In both, coins fill a gauge that raises your multiplier a step at a time, and the multiplier never goes down: a hit ("Almost!") only empties the gauge. Now and then Sway calls "Breathe!": no gate to pass, so hold the top on straight arms to rest, or dip for the bonus coins down low. From your second game on, you pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced before each one.

What counts. The count reads your shoulders: how far they sink, compared with the space between shoulders and wrists. Sink all the way and it's one push-up; sink partway and it's part of one. With your arms locked straight, nothing counts ("Bend your elbows! That doesn't count."), and nodding your head doesn't move the count. A knee push-up earns the same credit and the same records. The count appears once the game is over, rounded down to whole push-ups, and Push Flight keeps your best score and your most push-ups for each mode and level.

SWADE Push Flight end card: the badge "Push-up best!" and x1.5, a score of 800 pts against a best of 900, XP earned +30, Push-ups 49 and Coins 14, and Sway saying "Your arms are on fire!"
Your push-ups show at the end, rounded down, next to your score.

What it doesn't have. Unlike the games above, Push Flight has no duels, bosses, leaderboard or online play: you play alone. No push-up plan or daily target either. Push Flight is played from the Play tab, at one energy a game; energy builds back up over time, and the guided warm-up that opens your first game is free. The free session of the day is on the Path, in the Runner, SWADE's other game, where you jump, squat and step aside.

Your camera stays on your phone

In SWADE, the camera and the pose tracking run on your phone, and no image or video leaves it. What leaves is a game's outcome: a score, a push-up count. While "Help improve SWADE" is on, as it is at first, two more things go: a few numbers on how the camera followed you in Push Flight, sent with usage stats, and now and then a short sample of your moves drawn as a stick figure of 33 points, never an image, over Wi-Fi only and with no account attached. You can switch it off in Settings. Our servers are in the EU. Details in the privacy policy. SWADE's own labels will be on its store pages: read them the same way.

What this guide doesn't cover

  • Games for kids or a gym class. SWADE is made for players aged 15 and up.
  • How many push-ups to do. This page gives no numbers: ask a coach or a doctor who knows you.
  • Pain or an injury. A doctor first.
  • Calories and weight. We don't talk about them here.
  • Games that don't watch you, browser games found under "push up game online", and push-up filters in social apps.
  • Playing on a TV or a computer. Today, SWADE plays on the phone screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is a push-up game?

Two things. Away from a screen, it's a group game where push-ups are the score or the forfeit, like the deck of cards workout. On a phone, it's a game you play with real push-ups: usually seen by the camera, each one strikes a monster, races a rival or flies a character through a gap.

Can you play a push-up game against someone online?

Yes. On October 24, 2026, RepChamp, Push Up Boss, Pushup RPG, PushArena and Push Up Arena listed live one-on-one battles, and PUPG's update notes added 1v1 challenges against players online. RepChamp and PushArena keep unlimited battles for subscribers. SWADE has none: you play alone.

Do knee push-ups count in push-up games?

It depends on the game, and most listings don't say. Of the ten we read on October 24, 2026, only Pushup RPG mentions knees: its update notes say you pick toes or knees during setup, and can switch mid-set. Try a round on your knees before you pay. In SWADE's Push Flight, a knee push-up earns the same credit and the same records.

What is the push-up game with cards?

It's the deck of cards workout, played with push-ups: shuffle a deck, flip a card, and do as many push-ups as its value. Our deck of cards guide has the rules, what a deck adds up to and the apps that flip for you.

Are there free push-up games?

Yes, but "free" covers different deals. On October 24, 2026, Push Up Boss and Captain Push-Up were free with ads, and one purchase removed them; Pushup RPG listed no ads and called itself "fully playable from the first rep"; RepChamp had a free plan, with ads on Google Play; Flapups asked for a subscription after a demo round.

Is SWADE free?

Yes. The day's session is free, with XP and your streak: it's a Runner session, on the Path. Push Flight is played from Play: one energy per game, and none for the guided warm-up that opens your first. Energy refills over time, and a video you choose to watch gives one back. Premium is optional: unlimited energy and unlimited day savers, and the yearly plan starts with a 14-day free trial.
